This is a step-by-step guide on how to purchase KTM ETS ticket online through the official website.
After reading this article, you will be able to purchase the KTM ETS ticket right from your fingertips, and you don’t need to visit the ETS train ticket counter anymore.
I will also give you tips on how to choose the right seat on the train (so that your seat is facing forward and not backward).
You should also register for the KTMB i-Card Virtual if you are a student (40% off the normal ETS fares).
What is the KTM ETS? The ETS is the short-form for “Electric Train Service” and it is an inter-city rail service operated by Keretapi Tanah Melayu Berhad utilizing electric multiple units. The KTM ETS is the second electric train service to be operated by the Malaysian railway company, after the KTM Komuter service.

KTMB ETS Ticket Website Upgraded September 2018
For those who used to buy tickets from KTMB Online Ticketing system, you will find that the website has a completely new look now.
It used to look like this:
In my opinion, it looks better the last time. Nothing has changed much other than the overall website design, the online ticket booking system is still very similar.
Although the system has been upgraded (as claimed by KTMB staff), the official website could be buggy and not functioning during high-traffic or peak hours. You won’t be able to buy ETS tickets and get a notification just like this:
You might want to try booking ETS ticket using other alternatives like Easybook.com, which has a better website performance and no extra agent fees.
How to Buy ETS Tickets Using KTMB Online Ticketing System?
Here is the step-by-step guide to help you purchase ETS tickets online:
STEP 1: Visit KTMB Online Ticketing System via ktmb.com.my
STEP 2: Login with your username and password ( or Sign Up for a New Account).
STEP 3: Fill in your travel details and start searching for tickets
STEP 4: Select the Train. The ETS train fare, number of seats left, duration of the journey and the time of departure and arrival will be shown as below:
STEP 5: Fill in the required Passenger Info and select the type of ticket applicable to you (discounted price is available for categories like senior citizen and students).
STEP 6: Select your desired coach and seat (no extra charge).
How do u tell if the seat is facing forward or rear?
Tips: When you book your seat online, you will probably notice that one half of the coach is occupied more than the other half. There is a high chance that those are the forward-facing ones. Normally, people will request the counter for the forward-facing seats, thus they tend to sell out quickly.
Here is a great graphics by AdlanKhalidi showing the seat layout in the ETS train.
STEP 7: Check the details of the ticket and make payment. Available payment method includes Credit cards, Maybank2u and local bank transfer.
STEP 8: Save and print your ticket(s).
