Malaysia’s Airports in Kuala Lumpur
There are three airports around Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia:
- Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA)
- Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) a.k.a. Low-Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT)
- Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport (Subang Airport)
How to travel from KLIA Airport to Kuala Lumpur City Centre?
You have three choices:
- By taxi (most convenient but slightly expensive, journey duration depends on traffic)
- By bus (the cheapest way, journey duration depends on traffic)
- By KLIA Ekspress train (the quickest and easiest way, no traffic concern )
Transport with KLIA Express is probably the best choice if you want to reach the centre of Kuala Lumpur quickly without any concerns. The KLIA Express brings you from the airport to KL Sentral in just 28 minutes. You can enjoy the magnificent view of the city of Kuala Lumpur during the ride (especially when it is your first time in Malaysia). When you arrive at KL Sentral, you can either take a metro, bus, taxi or Grabcar to your hotel. In this case, getting a Grabcar is preferable because it is easy to book via mobile and cheaper than a taxi. However, still, the taxi could be your next option due to the fixed price system implemented here in KL Sentral. At the taxi counter, you just need to indicate the hotel you want to go, pay the fare and you will get a taxi ticket. Show this ticket to the taxi driver and you’ll be taken to your destination.
KL Sentral to KLIA / KLIA2 Airport
Travelling from KL city to KLIA is always the main question for tourists in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia when it’s time to go home. There are several ways to get from Kuala Lumpur city centre to the KLIA airport. One of the most convenient ways is to depart from the main transportation hub Kuala Lumpur Central Station (KL Sentral). The reason is that you can find several means of transportation to reach the KLIA airport easily in KL Sentral.
1. By KLIA Express / KLIA Transit
The quickest way is probably the Premium Non-stop High-speed train service KLIA Express, which departs from KL Sentral. The KLIA Express train brings you from KL Sentral to KLIA airport in only 28 minutes. A one-way ticket from KL Sentral to KLIA/KLIA2 costs RM55 for adult and RM25 for children (2-12 years old). The first train departs at 5:00 am while the last train at 12:40 am from KL Sentral.
The other option would be the KLIA Transit. The KLIA Transit also departs from KL Sentral and stops at a few stations (Bandar Tasik Selatan, Putrajaya & Cyberjaya, Salak Tinggi) before reaching to KLIA airport. It takes approximately 35 minutes to reach KLIA from KL Sentral (7 minutes slower than KLIA Express). The one-way ticket from KL Sentral to KLIA/KLIA2 costs RM55 for adult and RM25 for children (2-12 years old), which is similar to KLIA Express. The first KLIA Transit train departs at 4:33 am while the last train at 12:03 am from KL Sentral.
2. By Taxi
You can also reach KL city by booking a ride from the Grabcar or the Taxi. Often the most comfortable method to get from the city centre to the airport as you can get a Grabcar/taxi right in front of the hotel where you are staying (with KLIA Express you first need to travel to KL Sentral). Grabcar/Taxis usually charge around RM70 (regular car) to RM100+ (VIP, premier, airport limousine service or executive taxi) for a ride from the city centre to the airport.
Regular taxis often have small trunks; which could lead to problems when you are travelling with large suitcases. The premium taxi is the most expensive form of transport between KLIA and Kuala Lumpur city centre, but at the same time, it is also the most comfortable solution. At KLIA, you can arrange the premium taxi at the regular taxi counter. Here, you can also arrange a family van; which is great if you travel with more than two persons including luggage. You can also take the premium taxi from your hotel to go to KLIA or KLIA2.
3. By Bus
The cheapest way to travel between Kuala Lumpur city centre and KLIA airport is to board one of the bus/coaches that depart from KL Sentral (for example, the Airport Coach). Airport Coach offers passengers a daily non-stop point-to-point shuttle from KL Sentral to the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) and vice versa. The first bus from KL Sentral leaves at 5:00 am and the last bus is at 11:00 pm. You can purchase your tickets online or at Airport Coach ticket counter at the bus station area in Level G KL Sentral. The ticket is RM10 one way and RM18 for a return ticket. The travel time is approximately 1 hour. There are no charges for luggage.

Kuala Lumpur City to KLIA2 (LCCT)
The Kuala Lumpur International Airport 2 (KLIA2) airport, also known as the Low-Cost Carrier Terminal (LCCT), is a terminal near to KLIA where the budget airlines depart (mainly AirAsia). You can reach KLIA2 by the same means of transportation as you take to reach KLIA.
The most effective way is by taking the KLIA Express train, it will bring you from KL Sentral to KLIA2 in 33 minutes regardless of traffic. You can also take the KLIA Transit, which stops at several stations before reaching KLIA2 in 39 minutes, with the same cost of RM55 one-way.
You can reach KLIA2 by taking a taxi for roughly the same amount as you would pay for a trip to KLIA. It will take approximately 50 minutes to reach KLIA2 airport from the Kuala Lumpur city centre depending on the traffic.
The cheapest way would be travelling to the KLIA airport first by taking the Airport Coach bus from KL Sentral. At KLIA, Airport LINER offers passengers a daily non-stop bus service from KLIA and KLIA2/LCCT Airport Transfer. You need to proceed to Platform No. 10 and wait for the bus. The first bus from KLIA to KLIA2/LCCT is at 5.50am and the last bus is at 12.00am. The travel time is 20 minutes with a frequency of 30 minutes. Please purchase your ticket on the bus from the driver. The ticket is RM2.50 per person.
Kuala Lumpur to Subang Airport
You can travel to Subang Airport by taking the taxi. From Kuala Lumpur city centre, it normally takes around 25 minutes to reach Subang Airport depending on the traffic. Taxi fare is around RM15 to RM20 on the meter.
The 26km Skypark Link commenced operations on 1 May 2018 and runs between KL Sentral and Subang Skypark with a stop in Subang Jaya. The journey time from KL Sentral to Subang Skypark is 30 minutes. Free rides were only provided for trips that begin or end at Terminal Skypark.
